“My Playlist, Myself”
1)
Five More Hours by Deorro and Chris Brown. This song is so
important to me because I heard it during a warm up at the first soccer game I
managed. Whenever I hear this song it makes me think about my team and all the
good memories we had together. Even though I didn’t play the sport they always
made me feel a part of the team. It comforts me whenever I hear it.
2)
Suds in the Bucket by Sara Evans. This certain song was played
by my mom all the time when I was a little girl. It’s a constant reminder of
being a little kid and having no worries in the world. The song is so important
because my cousin Stephanie always belt out this song whenever we hear it. We
always have it on our road trip playlists.
3)
I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz. I heard this song for the first
time in 8th grade. I lost my grandpa that year and it was extremely
hard on me. My dad hasn’t really been around due to his job of being a
superintendent at a construction company back home. My grandpa always made sure
that I was always safe and that I got everything I needed. He acted as my dad
when my dad couldn’t be around. This song always made me feel better because I
knew my grandpa would never give up and he wouldn’t want to see me give up.
4)
Look Alive by Rae Sremmurd. This song was introduced to me by
some people I met here at UWSP. They actually have turned out to be my really
close friends here and I know I can go to them for anything which makes this
song important to me. Our friendship started because of this song.
5)
Shameless by The Weeknd. Not going to lie this song is
inappropriate, however some of the lyrics speak to me. I’ve been listening to
this certain artist since I was a freshman in high school. His music most of
the time has a relaxing and gentle beat that I enjoy. The lyrics that stick out
to me are “You want me to fix you, but it’s never enough.” That line is so
important to me because many people these days rely on other to fix them. When
in reality you can only really fix yourself and not have others do it for you.
I think my playlist says that I’m
not very picky with what I listen to. I can listen to pretty much anything
depending on my mood. My choices reflect that I have a different style than
most people. My music goes from rap to R&B and then to country.
From my playlist people should
learn that my mind is a very flexible place. They wouldn’t be able to learn why
my music is like this. When I was growing up I could listen to country and
nothing else. When I hit a certain age my parents let me listen to what I
wanted. My music is a combination of my childhood and my own taste of music.
An assumption they can make about
me is that I listen to a variety or genres of music because it clearly shows
that in my playlist.
To be honest I don’t really think
my playlist has a connection to “something larger”. I listen to music I like
and that relaxes me. I just consider my playlist a basic teenage playlist
that’s not really important to anyone, but me. It’s a way I can express myself
by myself.
Your playlist is a really good one. All of the songs have a special meaning to them and they really help to dictate your values and a little bit about your life.
